I have a large map with about 80 devices on it, and just moving shapes around to lay them out intelligently is a painful process.

Are there NetBrain guidelines for how I can improve performance in the application itself, or in IIS? The application/web server is running on Windows 2012R2.

The VM has the suggested resource requirements, and is running on fast storage (SSD). So my guess is there are things at L7 I can do to make NB a bit snappier.
